Fall 2011

Hello My few faithful blog followers! Finally I am updating our blog. We have started our weekly bible studies again. So far we have looked at Lying, Popularity, Gossip and tonight we are doing a study called Multiple Me's.
Coming up in October we have two big events. The craft faire is October 8th. This is a camp fundraiser. If you are able to help with this event please contact me. The parents and students who help with the event are the ones who benefit from it.
Also we have our annual Overnighter!!! The kids love this event! This starts friday night at 7:00 and ends Saturday morning at 8:30. Right now the cost is set at $10 for the night. This will help pay for their activities, food etc. Please encourage your students to invite a friend to this event, the cost for a first time guest is only $5.
Thanks!

Summer Time

I am loving this summer weather! But in typical ALIVE youth group tradition, the day we schedule a water night, it's only supposed to be 78 degrees. So I'm thinking we'll switch movie night and water night. :) I hope you all can make it this week! Can't wait to see you.

SUMMER IS COMING!

Spring is here which means summer is right around the corner! We have had an awesome year at ALIVE and I can't wait for the next round!
This summer we will have a different schedule. We will be meeting 4 times this summer for special events. We will be meeting at the church from 6:00-8:00 on June 15th, June 29th, July 6th and July 20th. You wont want to miss these nights, we'll be having pool parties, volleyball and bbq, movie nights etc.
We will have the month of August off and will start up our small groups on Wednesday nights again in September.
For the last two wednesdays this May we will be finishing up our series about "Dangerous People". A study on characters in the bible that risked it all to follow God! Our first study was on Daniel and I look forward to this weeks message about Esther. See you there!

Bible study this week

Our small groups have completed the second week in their series titled "Better Together." We're continuing to see how we as followers of Christ need the local church as a place to grow together and fulfill God's plans and purposes for our lives. This week, we examined several New Testament passages that describe how the church is a body and a family.

Most of us battle one of two tendencies: We either see ourselves as better than we really are, or we see ourselves as less significant than we really are. It's vital that we grasp Paul's message in Romans 12:3: Have an honest evaluation of who you are. Some translations use the word "sober" to describe this evaluation. Don't think too highly or lowly; recognize that you're valuable, essential, important-and so is every other follower of Christ.

Our job is to find our unique roles in the body, the family, the puzzle, or the team, and then help others find their roles, too. We need to discover, develop, and use our spiritual gifts, passions, abilities, and experiences to honor God and serve others. Our junior highers may not have a clear sense yet of how they've been uniquely created, but they can begin exploring that question now. They don't have to wait until high school or adulthood.

I'd encourage you to find an opportunity this week to talk with your teenager about our lesson. Here are some questions that might generate some good conversation:

* How does it make you feel to know that through Jesus, we experience adoption into God's family?
* What do you think your "special function" might be in the youth group or church? How do you see God possibly using you to make a difference in other people's lives and honoring him through your service and involvement?
* What can you do to appreciate and encourage people who serve behind the scenes in our church in roles that other people might consider "less important"?

The all new ALIVE Youth Ministry

I am very excited to announce that in 2011 the face of youth ministry is going to look very different. After a lot of prayer and evaluation we believe these changes will enable us to live out our purpose to walk alongside students and help them to live by faith, be known by love and be a voice of hope.
ALIVE youth ministry is going to focus on discipleship and service. As we explore God’s word together and deepen our walk with Christ we want to provide opportunities for youth to serve God in the church and in the community around them. We want to strengthen their relationships with each other and equip them to reach out to their friends and family.

Our new ALIVE Youth Ministry Schedule will be:

Wednesday Night Bible Study (EVERY WEDNESDAY)
6:30-8:00,
Girls will meet at Katy’s home 6240 Ross Ave in Carmichael
Boys will meet in the Youth Room at CBC

ALIVE First Fridays (THE FIRST FRIDAY OF EVERY MONTH)
7pm – 9pm
All youth event in the Youth Room at CBC

We will also be doing various service projects which will be announced in the weeks leading up to those events.
